Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ’s Kasiska Division of Health Sciences dedicates day of research to tackling Idaho’s opioid crisis

POCATELLO - The overuse of opioids is an area of significant concern for a multitude of organizations and agencies across the state of Idaho, the United States, and even the world. Those in the healthcare professions at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ (Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ) are working to be a part of the solution by conducting research, making changes to their curriculum, and encouraging partnerships with other groups who are working toward the same goal: combating the ever growing opioid epidemic.

POCATELLO – Three Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ faculty will be honored as Distinguished Faculty at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Commencement on May 5 in the Holt Arena. The recipients are Glenda Carr, Andy Holland and Michele Brumley.

POCATELLO – This May, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ anthropology students will have the opportunity to participate in the 2018 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Archaeology Field School. Students will spend four weeks in Kimberly, Idaho, at the Olsen Mammoth Site looking for the remains of a Columbian Mammoth.

POCATELLO – Five Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ faculty members have received 2018 Outstanding Researcher Awards and will be honored at a reception on April 10. One Outstanding Researcher will receive the 2018 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Distinguished Researcher Award. The winner will be announced at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ commencement on May 5.

POCATELLO – Camie Parsons, a current, nontraditional Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ chemistry master’s student, never imagined that being a cosmetologist would prompt her to go back to college to study chemistry. She’s now a single mother to four kids, completing graduate school and starting a business based off her cosmetology and chemistry background.

POCATELLO – Emily Morley, an Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ chemistry student, has always been interested in science. But, it wasn’t until she was a freshman at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ that she got involved in chemistry-based research and realized chemistry was her passion.
