Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, February 3
January 25, 2024

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) with $5 ticket vouchers (no limit), free shirts, and pom-poms during the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Women’s Basketball game against Northern Arizona in Reed Gym on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 2 p.m.
At halftime, the 2024 Trailblazer Award will be dedicated to the late Faye, Naida, and Ruth Yost. The Trailblazer Award is given annually by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ to a woman or women who have made significant contributions to the evolution of women’s sports. This year’s award will be accepted by Denis Yost, the Yost sisters’ younger brother on behalf of the trio.
The Yost sisters made great strides in women’s sports during their youth in Pocatello. They collectively contributed to all-girls sports teams, and Faye and Ruth established the Ashcroft Family Scholarship for women athletes at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. Naida and Ruth graduated from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ in 1973 and 1953, respectively. Faye did not attend Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ but was a lifelong fan.
NGWSD is presented by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Department of Human Performance and Sport Studies housed in the College of Education. NGWSD was established by Congress in 1987 as a national day to recognize and appreciate women’s sports. NGWSD honors the achievements of girls and women in sports and the benefits sports and fitness have on the lives of all girls and women.
As part of the celebration, immediately following the game, middle and elementary school children are invited to join Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ women athletes from a variety of sports for a meet and greet and autograph signing in Reed Gym.
