Research Leadership Transition: Mustafa Mashal

After 10 years of service to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, Dr. Mustafa Mashal will conclude his appointment as Associate Vice President for Research, Innovation Partnerships and Professor of Civil Engineering this summer after accepting the position of Vice President for Research and Economic Development and Professor at East Texas A&M University.
As Associate Vice President for Research, Innovation Partnerships, Mashal led initiatives to expand strategic partnerships with industry, federal agencies, and national laboratories while supporting faculty research development, technology commercialization, and innovation initiatives aligned with the university's strategic priorities.
"Dr. Mashal has made lasting contributions to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's research enterprise and innovation ecosystem," said Vice President for Research Martin Blair. "His leadership, vision, and commitment to building partnerships have strengthened our research programs and created new opportunities for faculty, students, and external collaborators. We thank him for his service and wish him continued success."
"It has been one of the greatest privileges of my career to serve Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ," Mashal said. "Over the past decade, I have had the opportunity to work alongside exceptional faculty, staff, students, university leadership, and external partners to build research programs that make a lasting impact. I am especially grateful to the many students whose dedication and success have made this journey so rewarding. Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ has been my home, and I will always be thankful for the opportunities and friendships I have found here."
To ensure a smooth transition, Mashal will continue serving as the major advisor for his graduate students through completion of their degrees and will continue leading active sponsored research projects as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator until their successful completion.
