Chemical leak in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Engineering Building is contained

POCATELLO – A chemical leak in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Engineering Building that occurred about 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, has been contained and the building has been re-opened.

A student lab assistant and a staff member were working with the chemical boron trifluoride when a release occurred. The chemical was immediately contained. As a precaution, the student and lab assistant were transported via private vehicle to the Portneuf Medical Center for observation, according to Phillip Moessner, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ associated vice president of facilities services. The student and lab assistant were evaluated and released.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ emergency personnel, including the Office of Technical Safety, the Pocatello Fire Department, the Pocatello Police Department and a regional hazardous materials team responded to the incident.

Students will be notified if the location for their final exams has been changed.
