A luncheon to complete the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ scholarship endowment for the late state Sen. Clint Stennett is Wednesday, Sept. 4, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ketchum.

Stennett, who died of brain cancer in 2010, represented Blaine County in the Idaho Legislature for approximately 20 years. He was the longest-serving minority leader in the Idaho Senate. After his death, Stennett's wife, Michelle, was elected to his seat and now represents District 26.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and family, friends and colleagues established the scholarship in 2011 to honor Stennett’s legacy and his passion for education. He earned his G.E.D in 1973 and attended College of Southern Idaho before graduating from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ with a degree in journalism and advertising.

"He always felt like education was a level playing field, that anyone could go on and do something if given a hand," said state Sen. Michelle Stennett.  "It made a huge difference in his life, and it was why he was able to succeed in what he was doing, and he wanted to give that opportunity to other students."

To date, donors have contributed more than $60,000, and the endowment has funded its first two scholars. Charlie Rivera, a 2012 Carey High School graduate, just completed his freshman year at the Pocatello campus, and 2013 Wood River High School graduate, Rachel Conover, will enter the university this fall.

The scholarship money is awarded to residents of Blaine County who plan to major in studies through the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ College of Arts and Letters. To qualify, students must graduate high school with a minimum of a 3.0 grade-point average and demonstrate a financial need.

The fundraising luncheon is being hosted by state Sen. Michelle Stennett; former state Rep. Wendy Jaquet; Ketchum residents Trish and Dave Wilson; and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.
