Discover the College of Business

Nestled in the heart of outdoor adventure, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ College of Business offers an unforgettable college experience where hands-on learning meets career preparation. Across our undergraduate majors and graduate programs, students gain real-world experience through internships, consulting projects, competitions, research, and professional development opportunities - all supported by the College's long-standing AACSB accreditation, a distinction earned by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide.

Our career-focused approach means students don't just graduate with a degree, they graduate with the practical skills, leadership experience, and professional network employers value. Many College of Business students secure internships that lead to full-time employment, and it's common for graduates to receive job offers before they cross the commencement stage.

Schedule a personalized advising appointment with one of our academic advisors to learn more about our programs and to build a course plan tailored to your interests, career goals, and timeline to graduation.

Our Programs

Among the Best

The AACSB represents “the longest serving global association dedicated to advancing management education worldwide,” and accredits less than five percent of schools granting business degrees in the world.  The College of Business’ accounting program is also separately accredited as one of only 189 schools holding both accounting and business accreditation.

Hands-On Learning and Real-World Experience

Students working on tax documents during a VITA session

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Accounting students gain real-world tax preparation experience through the VITA program, a nationally recognized initiative that provides free tax preparation services to qualifying individuals and families. Working directly with clients, students apply classroom knowledge to prepare tax returns, develop professional communication skills, and gain hands-on experience with tax laws and filing procedures.

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ College of Business VITA program consistently ranks among the most productive programs at peer institutions, filing more than 400 tax returns during a typical two-month tax season. Participation in VITA helps students build practical accounting experience, strengthen their resumes, and prepare for careers in tax, auditing, public accounting, and financial services.

Student team receiving D.A. Davidson Investment Fund Check

DA Davidson Investment Fund

Finance students gain real-world investment management experience through the D.A. Davidson Investment Fund, where student teams manage a live investment portfolio funded by D.A. Davidson & Co. Throughout the semester, students research companies, analyze market trends, evaluate investment opportunities, and make portfolio management decisions using real capital.

This hands-on experience helps students apply classroom concepts in equity analysis, portfolio management, risk assessment, and financial decision-making while developing the analytical skills sought by employers in investment management, financial analysis, and wealth management. Schools that generate positive investment returns also share in the portfolio's profits, rewarding strong investment performance.

International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition

The International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition (ICBSC) is a rigorous competition challenging top-level students from around the world to complete 12 quarters (three years) of simulated business decisions expedited over the course of a semester in addition to submitting a formal business plan and annual report. Students then travel to Anaheim for an intense 72-hour competition against their international peers followed by a formal presentation to executive-level judges from companies throughout the western United States. Idaho State is the only university in the states of Idaho, Utah, Montana and Wyoming to participate in the ICBSC and has consistently placed within first or second place.

Shark Tank 101 Pitch Competition

This annual business plan competition gives students the opportunity to develop a business plan for an innovative product, service, or startup idea. Students research their market, build a viable business strategy, and pitch their ideas to a panel of experienced business leaders and industry professionals via Zoom for a chance to win cash prizes.

In addition to strengthening entrepreneurial thinking and business planning skills, participants develop valuable career-ready skills such as public speaking, persuasive communication, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional presentation. Winners of this competition typically advance to the College of Business's U.S. Bank Pitch-Off, where they compete for additional prize money and further refine their ideas before an even larger audience of judges and business professionals.
